TechBA - Michigan
The metropolitan area of Detroit is one of the most important centers of automotive development worldwide. With a population of 5.7 million inhabitants, the region has the onsite presence of 9 out of 10 main manufacturing corporations (OEM) and 71 out of 100 most important Tier 1 worldwide suppliers.
Michigan investment in research and development for the automotive sector represents 10, 700 million USD, which is a direct result of government investment and the presence of 330 companies with facilities dedicated to applied or basic research, engineering, testing and development of vehicle related products.
Michigan's major commercial partners are Canada (59% of the exports) and Mexico, with a total of 11.6% in exports in 2006.
TechBA Michigan began operations in September of 2008. Its main allies are: the MEDC (Michigan Economic Development Corporation), USAutoPARTs (US Automotive Partnership for Advancing Research & Technologies), TechTown, Mi-SBTDC (Michigan Small Business Technology Development Center) and Wayne County.
